From being a software engineer in Silicon Valley to helming ClearTax, Founder and CEO Archit Gupta has spearheaded a massive paradigm shift in the fintech sector through the use of technology.

After graduating in 2008 in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he began working at a California-based IT company, Data Domain, as a software engineer. Inspired by Silicon Valley’s startup environment, and having seen people solve problems through tech, Gupta realised that he could do the same in his country as an entrepreneur – a decision that made him leave his high-paying job and return to India.

Given how cumbersome it was to file tax returns in India, he began developing his idea for an online income tax filing system that simplified the tax filing process for consumers. In 2011, he cofounded ClearTax, a company offering online e-filing and taxation solutions for individuals, businesses, chartered accountants, and tax professionals.

At an early stage, ClearTax was chosen by Y Combinator for its first Indiafocused investment, marking a major milestone for Gupta and his team. It also was successful in securing investment from PayPal co-founder Max Levchin and San Francisco-based venture capital firm Founders Fund.
